Head of the Chattanooga Report

hooch-1-1By Beth Sampson.  This past weekend the crew team had its first regatta of the semester in Chattanooga Tennessee. Because of fall break we were able to leave campus early Friday morning and row on the race course Friday night.  Racing began on Saturday with the women’s varsity eight at 9am. We could not have asked for a nicer day, it was sunny and in the 70s. One of the rower’s parents came to watch and brought tents so we were able to stay out of the sun and relax in between races (thank you!).

Overall Tulane did very well. The men’s varsity 4 came in first out of 19 crews, most of which were division one programs. The men’s JV 8 came in third and both the women’s and men’s novice 4s came in fourth. Most team members raced at least twice which everyone was happy to do. The excitement of the racing kept everyone energized and cheerful. The racing was so exhilarating that both teams voted to add an extra water practice this week and next in order to get ready for the regatta in Secret City on the 25th.
